KIT’S College of Engineering is instrumented in being the first institute in Maharashtra to start B. E. Degree course in biotechnology engineering since year 2002. The department of biotechnology desires of becoming India’s premiere laboratory for training and research in biotechnology. The department is envisaging on Interdepartmental, Multidisciplinary Programme. The laboratory of Biotechnology having strong research base and whose work extends beyond traditional departmental boundaries. The Goal of biotechnology department is to advance knowledge and educate students in Basic Sciences and Technological know – how associated with the field of Biotechnology. The mission of this department is to attain new height in Biotechnology in training, research and extension work, shaping Biotechnology into a premier tool of the future creation of wealth and ensuring social justice specially for the welfare of the poor.

The department is offering new courses in certain frontier and emerging areas of Biotechnology with orientation towards new product/process applied to microbes animal and plant material.

At present department has well equipped modern laboratories i.e. Microbiology, Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology. Where most sophisticated instruments such as Spectrophotometer, Analytical Balance, Incubator, Deep-Fridger, Cold Water Bath, Digital pH Meter, Research Microscopes, BOD Incubator, Electrophoresis Apparatus, Fermenter, PCR, Shaker Incubator, Centrifuge, Autoclave etc.

Students are working in extremely sterile conditions particularly culture work, analysis and extraction of active biological principles, and plan to study their physiological effect in relation to health care.

Our vision is to attain new heights in Biotechnology in teaching, research and extension work, shape Biotechnology as a premier tool of the future creation of wealth and ensure social justice specially for the welfare of the poor.

The Kolhapur Institute of Technology (KIT’S) is the first privately funded Engineering College in Maharashtra. Local industrialist, educationist and businessman have started this institute in 1983, with an intention to the impart Quality engineering education to student community and give a opportunity of employment for these trained talent in industries in and around Kolhapur. Over the years the institute has expanded, and today it has almost all major branches of engineering in addition if Has the management division also imparting post graduate courses in Business ministration and managements.

Further more in 2006 we are started Biotechnology Engineering and we are proved to say that, we are the first and only institute having ideal well set fully equipped laboratories with Institutes sophisticated instruments.
