  I) Kirsnotsav in Mahalaxmi Mandir

The Temple of Mahalaxmi in Kolhapur is an Ancient Temple, considered one among the Shaktipeeth’s in this Country. Constructed in “ Hemadpanthi” construction style, the Architectural Design is such that a very rare phenomena called ‘Kiranostsav’ occurs very year on 3 days during “Dakshinayan” and “Uttarayan”. The Dakshin Bhart Devasthan Committee had noticed that the alove ‘ Kiranotsav’(wherein sunrays fall over the Mahalaxmi Diety and Lighten in sintering thro a distance of @  feet long temple bldg’s narrow corridas opinion); was not occurring due to some obstacle’s during this natural process of sunset. According Shivaji University and KIT”s Civil Engg.,Dept. was called for technical Expertise and fact finding work.

The H.O.D. Civil Prof. K.G.Hiraskar and Prof.S.S.Varur were involved along with Shivaji University Scientist Shri.R.V. Bhosale and oferm last 2 years a detailed and complevsive Information was gathered; which indentified exactly the man made obstacles, their sizes, their heights of obstruction and angular inclination reqlilred for the occurance of the phenomana. The huge data collected over the period of two years; during various months of the year with the sophisticated Sunreying Instrument, nomely, Total station (SET 500), has helped to remove the obstacles and already the ‘Kiranotsav’ occure over the diety to a large extent. Only a few more obstacles stand in the way of achieving full Kiranotsav, which is just a matter of time. The above work has been commended by the College Management, the Kolhapur Society at large and people from all walks of lilfe students of Civil Dept. have contributed in this work immeusly.

II) Mahalaxmi Temperature Variatuns along the Pradakshin Marg:

The Dakshini Bharat Deosthan Committee impressed by the work done on ‘Kiranotsav’ phenomena, by the Civil Engg.Dept. entrusted the job of finding the Temperature heat along the pradakshina marag, due to Marble laid some 25 years back by an inthusiastic Devolee, with out actually delving over humuiditing the Technical aspects of rise in temperature, lerseng the naturalness of the stones and the ventilatrion effect maintained by the ancient sculpterer’s of the work.

The Kolhapur public at large has been complecining upon the uneasiness and Rerspiration Caused in the pradakshina marg (Gabhara),due to loss of veutilation and heavy humidity.

The HOD Civil Dept. Shri. K. G. Hiraskar, A. B. Sawant and S. S. Mane and there team from the Dept has worked with advanced Digital Thermometer’s and geological Aspects of the stones beneath the marble was studied! Different Readings of Temperature and humidity at diff. periods of the day and month were noted. Finally a conclusion was given to remove the marble cladding, the thick cement mortar lalyer and an expert Agency from Mumbai was called for doing the job meticulously.

A notable lowering of temperature and humidity by 3º C and 10% has been noticed by removing of the marble.
The above work has been commended by the Kolhapur public and people from all works of life.
Here also Civil Engg. Student’s Contribution was huge and noteworthy.
All leading Newspapers of Kolhapur have time and again highlighted the above issues
